Update on West Kirby Skate.

I featured Rods' site on my blog a few months ago, and he’s since updated his site:-

"This blog originally, was my attempt to find the long, lost, grown-up skaters of the Wirral Peninsula in the U.K. I now realise:

THEY DON'T EXIST!"

Rods is a man who knows when the battle’s lost and has re-vamped his site to showcase street-skating from around Europe. He’s winning the war and bring street-skating to the masses (whether they like it or not!!!) by amassing a collection of YouTube clips shot in London, Paris, Bruges and many other cities.

How many people where you expecting, when I first imported my skates 15 years ago, I was the only person around west kirby with a pair. We also imported 30 pairs to sell at the yacht chandlery down at the lake, despite them being far better than ordinary skates, noone seemed to all that interested :/

Davey,
Many thanks for mentioning the blog. Yes, I have given up the fight, but not entirely, a returning skater contacted me last week and we had a skate along the prom. But I am even more surprised to see this comment from Anonymous! I use the lake (although I don't go in with my skates on) and know and have in the past bought stuff at the yacht chandlery; seems like there is a secret skater around that I have not bumped into. After nine months I've met 3 skaters (including last week). Are there 4? Very mysterious...

Whilst I still have my skates (multiple pairs in fact), I'm no longer blessed with the knee's I once had. I still put them on every now and again because I love it, but usually regret it very soon after. Such a shame :(

Apologies for posting anonymously, I don't usually post my business details on a personal message, but just for you :)

Thanks for dropping by to clear that up Dave. I gave up running and took up skating because of my deteriorating knees.
I'm sure that Rods won't mind my passing on his e-mail - it's on his site anyway:-

dave turner,

Thanks for enlightening the mystery. I saw your van in the car park by the rigging area yesterday - if it's uncrowded I usually practice a bit on the tarmac. You might be interested in reading this thread at Skatelog:

it's from when I was trying to find other skaters for a group skate. This was doomed to failure! And thanks Davey Speedstar for letting me publicise again about skating in West Kirby.
If I see your van again, I'll say hi.
Cheers,
Rods
